WESTBOROUGH- Frederick C. Porter, 90, of Westborough, died on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Worcester. He was the husband of Ila Morley Porter.
Born in Medford he was the son of the late Frederick W. and Isabelle Dobbins Porter. He was a graduate of Billerica High School and earned a B. A. in Business and a B. S. in Engineering at Northeastern University.
During WW II he served with the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Master Tech. Sgt.
Mr. Porter was employed as the Director of Applications for State Mutual of America in Worcester from 1949 to 1984.
He was a member and former deacon of the Evangelical Congregational Church, a 50 year member of the Siloam Lodge AF & AM, a former member of the Westborough Planning Board and a former vice-president of the Westborough Food Pantry. Mr. Porter enjoyed world travel, gardening, woodworking and wood carving. He cherished his friends and participated in many social circles.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, David M. Porter and his wife Beverly, his sister Ruby Whitbeck, his nieces and nephews; Sue Budrewicz, Marilyn Stachelczyk Cheryl Wilson, Carolyn Hackett and Carl Ebhardt.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the Evangelical Congregational Church, West Main St., Westborough. Burial at W. Parish Cemetery in Andover will be private. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough.
