Erik D. Bertrand

March 20, 1996 ~ May 2, 2017 (age 21) 21 Years Old


Erik D. Bertrand, 21, of El Paso, TX, passed away suddenly on May 2, 2017, at the University Medical Center of El Paso.  He was the son of Master Sergeant Elena Bertrand, US Army, and Retired Command Sergeant Major Anthony Mathis, US Army, of Fort Belvoir, VA.

He was born in Fairbanks, AK, on March 20, 1996, and was a graduate of the Andress High School class of 2015.  Erik had been employed at the Coronado Country Club in El Paso, TX, as a Maintenance Technician.

Erik loved working with his father on all models of cars, and he especially loved driving sports cars.  He enjoyed spending time with his brother and sisters and considered his close friends to be family, too. Erik will be remembered for his beautiful smile, laughter, and big heart as he would help anyone he met who needed it.  He was an avid New England Patriots fan. 

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his girlfriend of five years, Ashley Valle of El Paso, TX.  Survivors also include two sisters, Kayla Bertrand and her partner Michael Ingram, Jayla Mathis, and one brother, Jaydan Mathis, his maternal grandmother, Constance Landry, an uncle, Michael Bertrand, two aunts, Stephanie Booker, and Misty Caiola-Croak, a niece, Ayva Ingram, his step grandmother, Deborah Renzi, and many cousins, great aunts and uncles.

He was the grandson to the late Walter G. Bertrand, Jr.

His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 16, at 10:30 A.M. in the First United Methodist Church, 120 West Main St., Westborough.  Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Westborough.

Calling hours at the David A. Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St. Westborough, are Monday, May 15, from 6 to 8 P.M.
