Michael M. Makowiecki

 Michael Makowiecki, 88, of Grafton, formerly of Westborough, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. He was born and raised in Worcester and was the son of Andrew and Mary (Kawecka) Makowiecki.  He graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Becker College and Clark University in Worcester.

            Michael was predeceased by his devoted wife of sixty-three years, Alicia (Mysliwiec) Makowiecki.  He leaves his children, Karen and her husband Scott Crandell of Webster, Alicia and her husband John Trainor of Worcester, Marcia and her husband Roger Sands of Princeton, Robert and his wife Sue of New Boston, NH, Peter and his wife Cindy of Scarborough, ME and Michael and his wife Caroline of Rutland, MA.  He also leaves his special thirteen grandchildren and one great grand-child. He is also survived by one brother, Chester Makowiecki and his wife Nora, of Auburn; two sisters, Therese Kaczyk and her husband, Joseph, of Centerville and Irene Dymek, wife of the late John, of Leicester. 

            Michael was retired after thirty years with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, as the New England Regional Inspector General, Office of Analysis and Inspection.  He was responsible for the regional and national reviews of Federal Funds and Programs in a six state area and special appointment national studies.

            Michael was active for thirty years in Westborough, serving on various committees and served as the former chairperson of the Westborough Council on Aging.  He was also active as a communicant at St. Luke’s Parish, as well as a former member of the Finance Committee and the Chorus.  He was a lifetime member of The Knights of Columbus, Council #85 in Westborough.  Michael loved art and was a member of the Northborough Art Guild and the Grafton Independent Artists Group and participated in a number of art shows in this area.  An additional interest of his was participating as a long time singing member of the Westborough Community Chorus.            Michael enjoyed his ever growing family and cherished every opportunity he had to share in their lives.

            He served with the U.S. Army Combat Engineers in the European Theatre during WWII and was again recalled with the Army Reserves from Worcester to serve in the Korean War as a Command Master Sergeant.

            Calling hours will be on Friday, November 27, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough. Members of Council 85, K of C will conduct a prayer service at 7:45 P.M. at the funeral home.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 28, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery.
