WESTBOROUGH- Russell H. Nordwell, 89, of Westborough, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Coleman House in Northborough. He was the husband of Thelma (Andrews) Nordwell.

Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Carl and Agnes (Ackerman) Nordwell. He was raised and educated in Shrewsbury and was a 1945 graduate of Shrewsbury High School. He also graduated from Boston University where he earned both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees.

During WW II he served with the United States Army.

Mr. Nordwell was employed as a Petroleum Geologist and liaison for the Regulating Body of the Southern States for Texaco in Louisiana and Texas for 29 years. Following his time with Texaco he worked as chief geologist for The Estate of William G. Helis for nine years prior to his retirement.

He was affiliated with The Congregational Church of Westborough and a former member of the Woodland Presbyterian Church in New Orleans, where he served as deacon.

He was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the New Orleans Geological Society.

Russell and his wife returned to Westborough in 1991 where he served on the Westborough Finance Committee. He enjoyed traveling and spending some of the winter months in Naples, FL.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Eric K. Nordwell of Worcester and Kurt P. Nordwell and his wife, Aysegul Gocmen, of Raleigh, NC; one sister, Evelyn Berg of Northborough and one granddaughter, Cilek Gocmen Nordwell.

A private graveside service was held in Lakeview Cemetery, Wayland.
