David C. Blackerby, 57, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Westborough, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, after a long battle with cancer. He was the husband of Diane (Donovan) Blackerby.
Born in Durham, NC, he is the son of William C. and Martha (Coleman) Blackerby of Trussville, Alabama. He was educated in Bessemer, AL schools and was a 1973 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army serving as a Field Officer and Army Aviator. Upon retiring from the Army he joined the Catepillar Tractor Company and has been employed as Vice President of Powers Systems for Milton CAT in Milford for 25 years. He was a communicant of St. Luke the Evangelist Church, was a member of the Westborough Country Club and of the Quechee Country Club in Vermont. He was the past president of the Westborough Little League and past president of WABA. David was an avid golfer and enjoyed reading. In addition to his wife and parents he is survived by one daughter, Doreen Blackerby Hogan and her husband, John, of Waltham; one son, Bryan D. Blackerby and his wife, Jessica, of Ashland; three brothers, Bill Blackerby and Steve Blackerby both of North Carolina and Richard Blackerby of Alabama; one sister, Paige Turner of Alabama and one granddaughter, Lucy Hogan. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 6, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will be at West Point Cemetery at the U.S. Military Academy. Calling hours at the Britton-Summers Funeral Home, 4 Church St., Westborough, are Sunday, October 5, from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M.
