Albert J. McMahon

WESTBOROUGH- Albert J. McMahon, 89, of Westborough, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. He was the husband of the late Mildred H. (Russell) McMahon.

Born in South Boston, he was the son of the late Albert and Bertha M. (Crosbie) McMahon. He was educated in Westborough schools and was a 1941 graduate of Westborough High School where he earned many an Athletic Awards and was inducted into the Westborough High School Hall of Fame. Albert was also elected president of his senior class. He went on to play semi-pro football for many years in Westborough, playing their home games at the Bay State Field. So often a bus load of fans would go to see Al play the away games.

During WW II he served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Al was employed for ten years as a press grinder at Bay State Abrasives and then as an oil machine operator at Wyman-Gordon for 27 years prior to his retirement.

He is survived by one sister, Nellie McNiff of Grafton and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Howard McMahon, Bertha McMahon, Henry McMahon, Leslie McMahon and William McMahon.

His funeral service will be held on Monday, February 4 at 12:00 Noon in the Britton-Summers Funeral Home, 4 Church St., Westborough. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery.

A calling hour will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon prior to the funeral service.
