Dorothy M. George

Dorothy M. “Dotty” George, 70, of Westborough, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester surrounded by her family after a brief battle with cancer.  She is the wife of 50 years to Paul L. George. 

Born in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of Hedwig (Zimmer) Lagemann of Westborough and the late Harold “Sonny” Lagemann.  She was raised and educated in Bronx, NY before moving to Westborough with her husband.  Dotty was employed as a bookkeeper and office manager at PLG Enterprises, Inc. until her death.  She was also a school bus driver for years while the kids were in school.  The kids loved to be on her bus.  She was fun no matter what she did.

Dotty lived her life to the fullest.  She enjoyed cooking, photography, and riding her bicycle.  Dotty and Paul geared their lives around traveling.  Together they traveled to Jetty Park, FL., Daytona FL., Disney World, New Orleans, Las Vegas, California, Hawaii, Italy, the Caribbean, Disney World, the British Virgin Islands, and Mexico.  She especially loved to go on the cruises. She managed to get 7 cruises in. 

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her three sons, Christopher George and his wife, Christie, of Sturbridge, David George and his wife, Paige, of Jacksonville, FL., and her adopted son, Brian Burhoe of Charlton; two grandsons, Nicholas and Matthew George; and many surrogate children who considered her as “Ma”, especially Thomas Indge and Gregg DeBore.

She is predeceased by her brother, Leonard Lagemann.

Paul’s Thoughts on his wife of 50 year’s passing:

Dotty is now gone. I thought this day would never come, but here it is. She died in my arms the way we planned.  I told her to stop fighting and let go, and for the first and last time in her life, she actually listened to me.

I don't know what to do or feel.  I am both sad and happy at the same time.

The light that went out at 10:40PM on Feb 8th was very unique. Dotty had so much love, compassion and toughness that it was hard to believe all that could be packed into such a small package.

I have loved her since she was girl of thirteen.  It was love at first sight.  I had to bide my time because she was so young.  (I am 31/2 years older).  We have always been best friends and we became lovers from the time she was 17.  I asked her to marry me when she was 18.  It was the best thing I ever did.  All the guys hated me because they all loved her.  In fact every man she ever knew loved her.  We married when she was 20 years old. 

She collected kids, she loved them and they loved her.  The love and devotion displayed these last 2 weeks was amazing.  She certainly knew she was loved.  There was a crowd of young men and woman augmented by friends that loved her, parading through the hospital room.

We had a chance to speak about all the lives she touched and helped.  She was considerate to a fault, she cared very deeply and never gave up on anyone. Everyone knew it was bad to piss her off, (like crossing the streams) you always knew where you stood with her.

As I travel through the rest of my life a piece of my heart will be missing.  I will never regain it.  It is hard to imagine how cope with that.

My darling and best friend, you will always be in my heart. 

Thanks to all that loved her, she loved you too! Never forget her or her love for all of you.  She always wanted a big family and she got her wish.

A Celebration of Life in Dotty’s memory will be held on Sunday, February 18, from 6:30-10 P.M. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 17 Willow Street, Westborough.
