He attended Westborough schools, and worked at Wardell’s Gas Station, Walter McTaggert’s Orchard, and the Westborough State Hospital Power House before he and Evelyn established Arnold’s Orchards in Westborough. With the help of their sons Russell and Gary, they owned and operated the orchard for 50 years. Zane was a member of the Massachusetts Fruit Growers Association and took great pride in raising quality fruit. They also made and sold award winning cider. Zane was one of the first fruit growers in Massachusetts to have “pick your own” apples. They also sold retail at their apple stand, at Spag’s, and through wholesalers in Boston and Ayer, MA. He was a charter member of Friends of Upton State Forest. Since 1988, Zane was happiest at his Lower Waterford, Vermont home where he enjoyed pastoral mountain views, festivals, fairs, and church suppers.

He is survived by two sons, Russell and his wife Ellen May Chase Arnold of Upton, and Gary and his wife Jeanne Frantz Arnold of Westborough. He was the proud grandfather of April B.
