Claire E. Strouse, 82, of Westborough, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 21, 2015. She was the wife of John F. “Jack” Strouse, Jr.

Born in Fall River, MA she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Byrnes) McCarthy. She was a graduate of St. Xavier Academy in Providence, RI and attended and graduated from the College of New Rochelle in New York where she majored in Sociology.

She was a communicant of St. Luke the Evangelist Church, was a member of the Women of St. Luke’s and past president of the Westborough Women’s Club.

Claire was a devoted wife, dedicated mother and cherished grandmother. Claire always said her children and grandchildren where her “jewels”.  She enjoyed her trips to Ireland and Scotland and especially loved trips to the beach in Rhode Island. She also enjoyed playing Bridge.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by six children, John F. Strouse, III and his wife, Theresa, of Grafton, Elizabeth S. “Betsy” Ricci and her husband, Charles, of East Providence, RI, Denise M. Harrison and her husband, Timothy, of Sutton, Stephen P. Strouse of Westborough, Mary-Claire DeCoursey and her husband, Stephen, of Westborough and Nancy E. Stanton and her husband, Michael, of Westborough; one brother, John McCarthy of Cumberland, RI; 13 grandchildren, Jacqueline and Stephanie Strouse, Joanna and Abby Ricci, Christy Harrison, Timothy Harrison and his wife, Stephanie, Paige Harrison, Jack Harrison, Timothy, Katie and Tommy DeCoursey and John and Drew Stanton.

She was the sister of the late Robert McCarthy.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 24, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery.

Calling hours at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, are Thursday, July 23, from 5 to 8 P.M.
