David Stone Farrar, 89, passed away at his home in Westborough, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born in Worcester on November 20, 1934, born again of the Spirit in March, 1982, and was escorted by angels into the presence of the Lord on September 24, 2024. David was a 1952 graduate of Westborough High School and a 1963 graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College. He also earned his MA in Counseling Psychology from Assumption College. David lived all of his life in Westborough, working at Bay State Abrasives Company for over 30 years and serving as a call fireman on the Westborough Fire Department for 20 years. He also drove the bus for the Westborough Senior Center for many years.
David was a sinner, saved by the grace of God in 1982. From that time on, he bore the stamp of godliness. The Lord gave David rich spiritual gifts: the gifts of repentance and faith, the gift of helping, the gift of encouragement, and, above all, the gift of love. David was man with a gracious spirit and a tender heart, loved by all who knew him. He was a family man, a godly servant-leader with a deep love for his wife, for all of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The Lord gave David a servant’s heart and made him a man of prayer, a man of the Bible, and a lover of God’s people.
David had only one goal in life and that was to “glorify God and to enjoy him forever.” He fulfilled that one goal in a myriad of ways. At different times he served as an elder at Bethlehem Bible Church in West Boylston, at Immanuel Chapel in Upton, and at First Baptist Church in Leominster. It was his joy and delight to encourage, serve, and help others. He was always sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, not only in his words, but also in the way he lived. He knew his own weaknesses and cast himself upon the Lord. Even as he lay dying, he said, “I have a magnet in me that draws me to others,” and, “Isn’t God good to us!” He was zealous about proclaiming the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. He was a great listener and a passionate soul-winner. He loved worshiping God with the saints, leading men’s Bible studies, visiting, counseling. and speaking to people about their souls and about the saving work of Jesus Christ.
The Lord blessed David with a large family, all dearly loved. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Vida (Maddocks) Martin Farrar. He leaves three sons and three step-sons: Kevin Farrar and his wife, Debra; David Farrar and his former wife, Kathy; Scott Farrar and his wife, Cynthia; William Martin and his former wife, Pamela; James Martin and his wife, Tamara; Richard Martin and his former wife, Kathy; and Donna Martin, widow of Roger Martin, who predeceased him. He leaves 21 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, all beloved beyond degree. David was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley Thompson Farrar.
