Our hearts are broken, as we share the news of the passing of our beloved Harvey, who left us far too soon on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the age of 71, after a courageous years-long battle with cancer.
Harvey was born in Canandaigua, New York, on September 28, 1953. As the fifth of eight children, his vibrant spirit was evident from a young age. He had a remarkable ability to light up any room he entered, drawing others in with his sharp wit and infectious energy. His distinctive laughter and playful humor were gifts to all who knew him, and he was cherished for his cleverness, kindness, and his unwavering ability to brighten someone's day. A true friend to many, Harvey was generous with his time and always ready to lend a helping hand. After nearly 40 years in the mining and materials industry, he retired from Dolomite in 2019, with a reputation for his legendary “fix-it” skills, often delighting in repurposing and repairing items for friends, but most importantly, his family.
Among the many roles he cherished were being a husband, father, and papa. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Vickie; their children, Nicole (Anthony) and Caleb (Stacy); and their treasured granddaughters, Rylinn Elise, Aurora Rose, and Ava Liliana.
Harvey connected with everyone he met, leaving a lasting impact on their lives. Yet, in his quieter moments, he found peace in casting a line into the water during the serene hours of the early morning or walking his yard with his canine buddies, gathering his thoughts for his next steps to make his current project “golden”.
Surrounded by the love of his family, Harvey’s playful spirit shone through even in his last moments as he crossed over at 4:20 p.m. (IYKYK). We find solace in knowing that he is now fishing peacefully in heaven’s clearest lakes, reeling in laughter and sizeable bass for all eternity. Harvey believed that "we all become a memory, so make it a good one". We will love and miss him endlessly on this earth.
We invite all who loved Harvey to join us for a Celebration of Life on July 7, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Canandaigua Country Club, 1 Fallbrook Park, Canandaigua, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations (in care of Vickie Smeatin) be made to support the educational funds of Harvey’s beloved granddaughters, who brought him immeasurable pride and joy.
