Helen M. (Socha) Galica of Westborough, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026 at Notre Dame Long Term Care in Worcester, MA. Born in 1925 in Chicopee, Massachusetts, Helen was the daughter of Walenty and Katherine Socha. She lived a rich and loving life for 100 years.
Helen married Mieczyslaw (“Mike”) Galica in 1950. They moved to Westborough in 1966 with their four children. They were happily married for nearly 56 years until Mike’s death. They shared a love of golf, travel, and walking. They also volunteered together with Meals on Wheels.
Helen is survived by her four children and their spouses: Dr. Michael Galica (Christine) of Holden, MA; Mary Anne Paul (John) of Asheville, NC; Helene Hartnett (Stephen) of Oxford, MA; and Kathryn Carliner of Maplewood, NJ. She also is survived by eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She is predeceased by siblings Joseph, Leopold, Edward, Viola, and Sofia Socha, Veronica Furtek, and Emily Larochelle.
Helen was an active member of St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Westborough, where she was a Eucharistic Minister. She also volunteered with the Martha & Mary Ministry at the parish and at The Mustard Seed in Worcester. She was a talented artist who enjoyed sketching and oil painting. Warmhearted and kind with a wry sense of humor, Helen loved spending time with family, especially with her grandchildren.
The Galica family would like to express their deep appreciation and thanks to the staff at Notre Dame Longterm Care and Rehabilitation, who for many years tenderly cared for Helen with the utmost respect, consideration, and kindness.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, July 28, in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St. Westborough. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Cemetery, Westborough.
A calling hour will precede her funeral Mass from 9 to 10 A.M. in the Pickering & Son Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St. Westborough.
