James P. Culhane, 72, of Westborough, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Mary E. (Thompson) Culhane.
Born in Waltham, he was the son of the late James F. and Evelyn A. (Carr) Culhane. He was raised and educated in South Boston and graduated from Weymouth North High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering from UMass Lowell.
James was a Plastics Engineer in the Bio Medical field working for Abiomed, Boston Scientific, and Angio Dynamics, among others.
He was a member of the Men’s Hockey League at North Star, played and enjoyed watching hockey at New England Sports Center, participated in the Westborough Men’s Softball League, coached softball, and took part in Westborough Youth Soccer, Minute Man Flames, and Tri-Boro Hockey. He also served on the Advisory Board at UMass Lowell for Plastics Engineering.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Marion C. Fisher and her husband, Brian, of Westborough, and Elizabeth M. Surber and her husband, Mac, of Westborough. He is also survived by his niece Regis Cain and her son, Conall Cain; five grandchildren, Michael Fisher, Mary Jane Fisher, Kenny Surber, Evelyn Surber, and Eleanor Surber; his mother-in-law, Lorraine M. Thompson; many other nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his wife's dog, “Bucky F. Dent.”
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 7, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Followed by a reception lunch at Arturos Restaurant, East Main Street, Westborough.
Calling hours at the Pickering & Son Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, are Monday, April 6, from 4 to 7 P.M.
