Jean L. Thorpe

Jean L. Thorpe, 95 of Barefoot Bay, FL, and formerly of Woodville, MA, passed away on Saturday, June 21st at home with family by her side. She was the last of her family to experience the world events of the last 18 years.

She was born to the late Albert and Dorothy Berry on December 20, 1929, in Regina Saskatchewan Canada. The family moved to the United States, and she graduated from Hopkinton High School in Hopkinton, Massachusetts and at 40 years old went on to Nursing School to become an LPN. She retained her LPN license until 2 years ago when she knew it was no longer necessary to keep it, but she never stopped being a nurse to family, friends, and neighbors.

She married Gerald F. Thorpe on March 26, 1949, in Woodville Massachusetts where she resided with her 4 children: Janet Ridings (Patrick Ryberg), Patricia Haight (Robert Haight), Richard Thorpe (Kathleen Thorpe) and Cynthia Ryder (Scott Ryder). At twenty-six years old, she had open heart surgery to fix a hole in the middle wall of heart. This was experimental at the time, but we would not have had a mother unless it was done. Thankfully we have had her for all these years not only as a mother but best friend. She has always been there for each one of us when necessary; the squeaky wheel always got grease when necessary.

A celebration of her life will be at Seawinds Funeral Home, 735 Fleming Street, Sebastian, FL on June 26th, visitation from 2 to 4 with a service to follow.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, July 2, at Evergreen Cemetery, Wood Street, Woodville, MA.

In lieu of flowers, family is requesting that donations be made to American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, Tx 75284-0692, in remembrance of her.
