Dr. Jerry M. Lyle, 86, of Westborough, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Rose Monahan Hospice in Worcester. He is survived by his wife Marilyn (Mayhew) Lyle.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Stephen Lyle and his wife, Cindy, of Weymouth, a son-in-law Richard Lord of Westborough and three grandchildren, Bridget Lord, Maielise Lord, and Audrey Van Heest and her husband, Jack.
Jerry was predeceased by his daughter, Brenda Lord, in January of this year.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, he was the son of the late Joseph and Audrey (White) Lyle. Jerry’s father served in the Navy and the family moved often when Jerry was young. In addition to Honolulu, he lived in Augusta, GA, Norfolk, VA, Philadelphia, PA, Newport, RI, and Ventura, CA, where he graduated from high school and met his future wife, Marilyn. He attended Berkeley University and graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine.
Jerry was a pediatrician in the Indian Health Service (IHS), serving as an officer in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. He spent the majority of his career on the Navajo Reservation in northern Arizona, followed by 8 years in Oklahoma, with brief periods in Oregon and Alaska. In 1995 after 30 years of service, he retired in Reston, VA. He later moved to Westborough, MA to be near his grandchildren.
A highlight of Jerry’s career was his work improving access to immunization services, particularly for Native Americans. He also served as the national director to study and combat Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
Jerry was a member of The Congregational Church of Westborough, and enjoyed gardening, modern art, history, and good conversation.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, May 30th at 10:00 A.M. in The Congregational Church of Westborough, 57 West Main St., Westborough. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
