Lois Marie

April 8, 1937 — May 22, 2024

Westborough / Northborough

On May 22, 2024 we sadly said good-bye to our beloved mother, grandmother and “GG” Lois Marie. Lois was the daughter of Edwin and Marion Flanagan of Lynn, MA. She died peacefully, surrounded by family and comforted by her faith as she was going home.  She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Lynn and proudly from the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston. She was married to the late Robert (Bob) Marie. Once married, their family moved several times and eventually settled in Northborough, MA. In retirement, Lois and Bob lived on Martha’s Vineyard for over twenty years where they each enjoyed their favorite pastimes, made great friends and created lifetime memories for their children and their families. For the last three years, Lois made her home in Westborough, MA with Christine and Paul Molloy where Christine lovingly cared for her so that she could remain at home with their family.

Although caring for her family and home always came first, Lois enjoyed a successful career working in various capacities, settling into a long role as an investor relations professional at Digital Equipment/ Hewlett Packard. Starting from her organizational skills initially, Lois worked directly with Wall Street analysts as she took on more responsibility. She was able to join on trips to several memorable destinations including Las Vegas, New Orleans, France and Germany. Lois was a loving, loyal, generous and independent woman. Lois always put others first and taught us empathy, which she modeled in her life. She rarely spoke ill of another person, although her teenaged children may have tested her patience resolve. Lois eagerly enjoyed hearing about both the daily moments and the important milestones of our lives. She was especially proud to learn about the accomplishments of her grandchildren and loved stories and pictures of her great-grandchildren.

Lois was predeceased by brother Paul Flanagan, parents and husband Bob Marie. Lois leaves behind daughters Beth and her husband David Cocola, Christine and her husband Paul Molloy and son Robert and his wife Kelly Marie. She also leaves six grandchildren, Ryan and Travis Marie, Dylan Molloy, Morgan and her husband Conor Kinney, Emily and her husband Matthew Clawson, Rachel and her husband Tyler Tupper and great grandchildren Clay and Marlowe Tupper. Lois also leaves behind sisters-in-law Carolyn Sjogren and Frances Laubner, and many nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank caregivers Ellen Church and Patty McElligott who contributed so greatly to our mom’s well-being over the past year.

In accordance with Lois’ wishes, funeral services and burial will be private. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held during the summer.

In lieu of flowers, remember Lois by performing an act of kindness. In that spirit, the Island Food Pantry (PO Box 622, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568 or www.igimv.org ) would gladly welcome donations in her memory.

Lois will be forever remembered with her toes in the sand, passing the afternoon with a good book on the shores of the place she loved best.
