Mary Margaret (Garrahan) Clasby, inspirational mother, teacher, businesswoman, and community volunteer known by those who loved her as Mom, Momma, Nana, Nana Donut, and Mary died peacefully on April 18, 2021 at 11:11am. Beloved wife of 67 years to Edward M. Clasby. Devoted mother of Maryanne Bombaugh and her husband Keith, Edward Michael and his wife Deborah, Elisabeth Eyster and her husband Louis, Shaun and his wife Theresa, and Ann-Marie Sullivan and her husband Michael. Loving grandmother to Louis, Andrew, Dana, Shauna, Sarah, Thomas, Shaun, Ariel, Keith, Maria, Teddy, Samuel, Rachel, Daniel, and Audrey and great-grandmother to fourteen beautiful great grandchildren.
A gentle, loving, passionate, and faith-filled woman, Mary worked tirelessly to live her faith by being a source of love and non-judgmental support for her family and also chose to be a woman of conviction as she cared for those most vulnerable and marginalized in her community through her involvement in the Special Olympics, Birthright, Zonta, and Catholic Women’s Club outreach programs to the poor.
Mary was born, grew up, and raised her famiy in Framingham. She attended elementary school at St. Stephen’s in Framingham and then attended high school at Jeanne D’Arc Academy. She graduated Emmanuel College with a degree in biology and attended graduate school at Boston College where she advanced her studies in biology with a Master of Science degree. Mary taught at Sherborn High School where she strived to share the wonder of science and biology with her students. While at Boston College she met Edward, the love of her life, and they married in 1953 and began their family life together.
Mary found time despite the busyness of life to always be present to her children. Many wonderful memories will live on; Marshfield, treasure hunting, fishing, walks, the YMCA in Ashland, ski trips, blueberry picking, Edaville, Boston theater shows, swan boats, inspiring travels, and participating in sports, music, birthday.... any events of her grandchildren whom she loved so much.
She owned CT Garrahan Insurance Agency with her husband for over 40 years, and were committed to serving their clients and community.
Mary was pre-deceased by her mother and father, Sarah and Christopher Garrahan, and her brothers Christopher and John Garrahan.
Mary’s life was full and wonderful and inspirational and filled with optimism. She always sought to see the best in every person and life event, and continues to give us so many gifts as she leaves her beautiful life here for one even more spectacular.
