Mary-jane Chase (nee Epaul), age 94, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Born on November 30, 1930, in Springfield, Massachusetts, Mary-jane was a graduate of Cathedral High School. She married and built a life in Westboro where she lived for 60 years.
Mary-jane was the beloved wife of Earle with whom she shared 51 years of marriage before his passing. She was the devoted mother of Cherylann Taylor, Scott Chase and his wife Maria, Laurie Rogers and her husband James, Jeffrey Chase and his wife Sonja. She was also a proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren (with two on the way!). Her son Mark preceded her in death and is survived by his wife Elizabeth Chase of California. Mary-jane is also survived by her sister Gloria Gallagher.
A woman of many interests, Mary-jane (aka Gramma) enjoyed working with her hands, especially when it involved interaction with others such as her quilting and braided rug making groups and participation in the Westboro Community Chorus. She was particular about her house and yard, keeping everything in perfect condition. She always had pretty potted flowers on the steps and a beautiful arrangement on her front door. She was the matriarch of the very special neighborhood of Old Colony Drive. Everyone knew Gramma, it was rare to go anywhere with her without someone stopping to say hello.
Mary-jane loved spending time outdoors working in the yard and entertaining family and friends on her deck overlooking her pristine pool and lovely back yard. The family pets enjoyed a special place in her heart and were welcomed as part of the household. She enjoyed wrapping up her day on the deck in the afternoon sun with a glass of wine and a bowl of pretzels.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 10:30 AM at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 70 West Main Street, Westborough. Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to the Second Chance Animal Services, 111 Young Road, East Brookfield, MA 01515 or via www.secondchanceanimals.org.
