Robert P. DiBuono, 81, a longtime Westborough resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. He was the beloved husband to the late Sharon L. DiBuono (Hunt).

Born in Marlborough, he was the child of the late Nicholas “Nick” A. and Elizabeth “Betty” S. (Jones) DiBuono. He was raised in Marlborough and was a Graduate of Marian High School where he played baseball. He attended Paul Smith’s College, where he attained an Associates Degree in Arboriculture and completed his college education at Framingham State with a degree in Biology.

Prior to raising his family, Mr. DiBuono was employed as a foreman by the State of Massachusetts in the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC). The Vietnam War came calling in 1968 when he was drafted by the US Army and served in country for one full tour. He volunteered and underwent training to be a Radio Telephone Operator (RTO) for the 9th Infantry Division; a high-risk position which provided the vital field communication link between his division and headquarters. He earned a Bronze Star Medal during his tour among other commendations. Following his discharge, he resumed his career with the MDC and became a Forestry Superintendent until his retirement. For many years, he taught CCD at St. Luke’s Church, was a member of the Westborough Conservation Commission, and volunteered at the Town Hall. Until recently, he was the Secretary for the Marlborough Fish and Game.

He was known for his great sense of humor and greatly enjoyed reading, hunting, backpacking on the Appalachian Trail, skilled woodworking, gunsmithing, bow and arrow making, and playing pitch with his brother and friends. During his sons’ younger years, he coached baseball and hockey and attended thousands of hockey games all over New England and Eastern Canada. More recently, he enjoyed attending cross country and track and field meets in New Hampshire and Massachusetts for his grandchildren.

He is survived by his brother, Nicholas (Nick) A. DiBuono of Marlborough, MA, two sons, William R. DiBuono and his wife Kristyn, of Londonderry, NH and Christopher N. DiBuono and his fiancée Mandy Santagata, of Clinton, NC; seven grandchildren, Billy, Jack and Ella DiBuono, and Nicholas, Chris, Anthony and Chloe DiBuono, and one great grandchild, Claira Cordell, as well as lifelong friend and fellow outdoorsman Dr. Tim Lepore.

A public graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 8, in Pine Grove Cemetery, 106 South St. Westborough.

There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund
