Robert Markert, age 90, of Westborough, MA, passed away on August 24 after a long battle with cancer.
Robert “Bob” was born in November of 1933 in Rockville, CT. After Robert graduated from Phillips Academy Andover in 1952, he went on to study industrial engineering at Yale University. After graduating in 1956, he went on to serve two years in the United States Army Signal Corp.
Returning from military service, he started his career in telecommunication management for 35 years at NYNEX and New England Telephone Co. He married Harriet (Hat) Markert in 1959 and had two children Brooks and Elizabeth. As a loving father and active member of the community he served as a Boy Scout Master, hockey coach, sang in the Congregational church choir, and volunteer at the election polls.
He retired in 1991 and spent his time playing golf, sailing, fishing, caning chairs and growing beautiful hybrid tea roses. Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years, his children and his five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7, at 11:30 A.M. at the Willows Retirement Center 1 Lyman St. Westborough, in the Community Room.
