Timothy A. Hodgens, Ph.D

Timothy A. Hodgens, Ph.D, 85, of Westborough, MA, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026, following a brief battle with cancer. Tim was the beloved husband and best friend of Mary Beecher Hodgens for fifty-seven years.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Tim was one of seven children raised by the late Joseph and Kathleen (Cooney) Hodgens. During the school year, his family lived in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Their family spent summers on the sandy beaches of Breezy Point, Queens, New York.

Tim attended the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. where he earned his bachelors degree in chemistry. He would matriculate to Boston College, where he met his future wife, Mary Beecher of Milford, CT. Tim graduated from Boston College's Lynch School of Education in 1967 with a master's degree in psychology and, in 1970, a doctorate degree in psychology. Following graduation, Tim and Mary made their home in Westborough, MA, where they would raise their family.

Over the course of more than fifty years, Tim helped countless people find their way. Through his wisdom and compassion, he had a remarkable clinical ability. A licensed psychologist, Tim managed a private practice in Worcester and ultimately, in Westborough, where he joined Windward Associates with partners Linda Dickens and Mary DuBois. There, he found his forever home as a therapist, built a respected practice, and purposefully served his community. Windward Associates would later be joined by Tim's colleague and friend, Cindy Bell, at their Lyman Street office. A member of the American Psychological Association and the Massachusetts Psychological Association, Tim remained in practice through April 2026.

Tim had an insatiable love of learning. Whether through a book or a conversation with a friend, he never missed an opportunity to learn. He was an avid martial artist who earned his black belt in karate, an enthusiastic kayaker, writer, painter, explorer and chef. Above all, he was dedicated to his family.

As a father and grandfather, he was a constant source of encouragement and support. In addition to his beloved wife, Mary, Tim is survived by his three children: Cristin Marie Adele Hodgens (Kurt Christensen) of Westborough; Matthew Reed Joseph Hodgens (Lindsey) of Medway, MA; and Andrew Timothy Beecher Hodgens (Andrea) of Medfield, MA.

Nampa was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren: Emmett, Anna, Grace, Madelyn, Emma, and Ava. Simply being present for life's important moments meant the world to him.

He is also survived by his brother Donald Hodgens (the late Virginia) of Charlotte, NC; his brother Gerard Hodgens (Aleaze) of East Hampton, NY; his sister Theresa Keppel (Con) of Craftsbury, VT; and his sister-in-law Karen Hodgens of Brockton, MA. Tim is also survived by twelve nieces and nephews living from Vermont to North Carolina.

Tim is predeceased by his brother Richard Hodgens and his wife, Jo-Ann; his brother Joseph Hodgens; his infant sister Mary Hodgens; beloved Aunt Adele Cooney; and his parents.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 11, at 11:30 AM at St. Luke’s Cemetery (26 Hopkinton Rd., Westborough, MA), to be followed by a reception at St. Luke's Parish Center (1 Ruggles St., Westborough, MA). A memorial Mass will be held in Tim's honor at Boston College at a later date.
