Winifred L. Huddy, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025, in Westborough, MA. She was 96 years old and formerly a long-time resident of Fort Salonga, NY.
Born in Manhattan, NY, in 1929, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Elizabeth (McPhillips) Lappin, early 1920s immigrants from Ireland. Orphaned as a teenager, as the eldest of six surviving children she took an active role in keeping the family together through their early years.
Known as Winnie, she was the mother of five sons; John Kevin Huddy and wife Eileen, Daniel Joseph Huddy and wife Ellen, Andrew James Huddy and wife Catherine, and Christopher Paul Huddy and wife Susan. Winnie was predeceased by her middle son, Joseph Rich Huddy, and former husband, Joseph George Huddy. She also leaves eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Winnie was a deeply religious woman, steadfast in her Catholic faith and a believer in the power of the Rosary. Before experiencing declining health, she was active in many church-based charitable activities, as well as volunteering as an elder caregiver. She would roll bandages for the sick in Africa, collect clothing for Appalachia, and stitch vestments for missionary priests.
The family is grateful for the support provided to Winnie by her caregivers, as well as the staff and residents at The Highlands in Westborough. They all made contributions to her end of life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 10, in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main Street, Westborough. Burial will be private.
