Ada Elisabeth Hoyer, 88, of Westborough, MA passed away on April 4, 2023. She was the devoted wife of Hans Hoyer, who was the love of her life, to whom she was married for 62 years. Ada was a selfless mother, to Hans and his wife, Diane, of Greenville, RI, and Bent and his wife, Kathryn, of Annandale, NJ. Ada and Hans had a third son, Tom Andrew, who passed shortly after birth.
Ada was born in Oslo, Norway on January 27, 1935, the daughter of the late Elisabeth (Dahl) and Erling Lynne. Her sister Mette Haugen and brother Tor Lynne, both of Norway, survive her.
Few people knew that Ada was an accomplished pianist. As a teenager, she was part of a concert piano tour which included performing at the National Theater in Oslo for the King of Norway. Upon completing her education in Norway, Ada studied abroad in London. She held some interesting jobs including serving as the personal assistant to the Commanding Officer of the Norwegian Military Academy and working for a detective agency.
After starting their family in Brussels, Belgium, Ada and Hans immigrated to the United States and raised their sons in Massachusetts. In addition to being a homemaker, Ada volunteered at UMass Medical in Worcester for over 40 years delivering mail and talking with patients. She valued spending time with her friends, included a community of transplanted Norwegians, and will be remembered as an impeccable hostess. Everyone who knew Ada, liked her. Always friendly, welcoming, and kind, Ada’s warmth and interest in others were the hallmarks of her character. She also enjoyed gardening and travel. Ada and Hans were fortunate to be able to see the world together.
Ada was also the proud and loving “Farmor” to her 3 grandchildren, Nick, Annika and Will, and her grand-dogs, Charlie, Ginger, Bailey and Winston.
A memorial service is being planned for a future date to celebrate her wonderful life.
Donations in Ada’s memory can be made to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the ASPCA.
