Jane E. Hughes

Jane Elizabeth (Welch) Hughes, 78, of Westborough, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020, at the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA.  She was the loving mother of Kimberly (Hughes) Huie and Michael Hughes (previously deceased), and loving grandmother of Michael Huie.  She leaves behind her sister, Geraldine (Welch) Conley of Durham, NC, and her brother, Thomas Welch and his wife Jane, of Wakefield, MA, as well as her nieces and nephews, Brian Conley, Glen Conley, Gail Conley, Trevor Welch and Jessica Welch. She is also survived by her former husband, David Hughes of Norwood, MA.

Jane was born in Norwood, MA and was the daughter of the late Edward Welch and Mary (Flaherty) Welch.  She graduated from Norwood High School in 1959 and went to work as a secretary at the original John Hancock building in Boston. She married and moved to Newtonville, MA to bring up her children.  For fun, she played volleyball and spent many summer days going to the beach with her friends and her daughter. She later divorced and worked at the Newton Public Schools as a secretary and later retired from Cunningham & Machanic in Natick.

She enjoyed listening to music, reading, the beach, and spending time with her family and friends.  She was easy to talk with and will be remembered for her kindness, warm personality, and sense of humor.
