Nathan Truell Obituary

Nathan A. Truell, known to friends as “Nate,” passed away on February 4, 2021, in San Francisco, CA, at the age of 42 years.

Nathan was born in Framingham and raised and educated in Westborough. He graduated from Westborough High School in 1996, and from Ithaca College in 2000, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. After college, Nathan moved to Newport, RI, where a job at 22 Bowen’s Wine Bar & Grille introduced him to the world of fine dining and wine enthusiasts. From Newport he moved to Breckenridge, CO, then to Walnut Hill, CA, and in 2006 he settled down in San Francisco, the city he loved. Nathan worked in many upscale restaurants but had been employed at Alexander’s Steakhouse since 2015 as a restaurant Captain and Certified MS Level I Sommelier. Nathan was highly regarded for his expertise in wine and could tell you everything you ever wanted to know about wagyu and domestic beef, which was Alexander’s specialty.

Nathan was beloved by all who knew him and will be remembered for his joy, kindness and compassion.

He had a gift for bringing out the best in everyone he met and making the best of every day. He truly saw the world through multi-colored glasses and could find humor in the most mundane life circumstances. Nathan was a talented painter, photographer, writer, musician, voice artist, beat boxer, pickle maker and so much more. If asked, Nathan would surely say that his extended visit home in 2020 was the best time ever. He enjoyed the snow, working around the yard in the tractor and watching the Patriots and Red Sox. He took a long-awaited trip to the Berkshire Mountain Bakery with his Mom, and spent many weekends at the family home in Vermont, fishing the streams and driving the back roads in the old Jeep with his Dad.

Nathan is survived by his parents, Gary and Barbara (Perham) Truell of Westborough; a niece, Macey Elizabeth Maddin of Lawrenceburg, IN; Jack Russell “Tarah”; several aunts, cousins and second cousins; CA friends Jeffrey, Molly, Kara and Zara, plus many other close friends on both coasts.

Nathan was pre-deceased by his brother, Andrew R. Truell.

“Life is Good” was the last social media post Nathan wrote just hours before he passed. As a concerned environmentalist he was an avid fan of Our Planet, a Netflix series narrated by Sir David Attenborough.
