Paul S. Mugford

Paul Stanley Mugford, 96, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Westborough, passed peacefully on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehab. He is survived by his daughter Ann Louise Mugford of Keene, NH and James W. Mugford of N. Grafton, MA.  His surviving grandchildren are James W. Mugford of Worcester, MA, Matthew P. Mugford of Westboro, MA, Jonathan M. Mugford of Shrewsbury, MA, Nicole Mugford of San Diego, CA. and Craig Mugford of Franklin, MA.

He is also survived by his sister in law, Jean Mugford and several nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his loving wife Marion R. Mugford and his son, Alan P Mugford.

Paul was born in Weymouth, MA son of Walter J. and Eunice L Mugford. He graduated from Weymouth High School and Framingham State University.

In 1943, he served in the Army Air Corp during WWII in England.

He worked for Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife for over 20 years, holding many positions, Including State Ornithologist and Field Office Supervisor.

He loved gardening and had a self service roadside stand selling vegetables and flowers for many years. When he retired, he started Mugford’s Flower Shoppe which he operated with Jim and then sold to Chris Bakutis, whom he continued to work for into his 90’s.  He spent many happy hours at the Shoppe.

Paul loved his home on Prince Edward Island, Canada,  which he spent many summers  with his wife of 68 years Marion. His children and grandchildren loved spending time with him there as well. He loved the ocean, the beautiful land and gardens. He has relatives and friends there as well.

 His family especially Jim, Jimmy, Matt and Jon will be able to enjoy this land for many years to come.

A graveside service, with Military Honors, will be on Thursday, June 24, at 11:00 A.M. in Pine Grove Cemetery, South St., Westborough.

A calling hour will be on Thursday from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Pickering & Son Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough, prior to the service.
