William Butler Obituary

William Reiley Butler, 67, passed away suddenly April 6, 2023. He was born November 20th, 1955 in Syracuse, New York to Jane Burns and John G. Butler. William went by his nickname “Bill” and “Billy” for most of his life. Bill graduated from Fayetteville High School Class of 1974. He graduated Cum Laude from Syracuse University in 1978 from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management.

After college, Bill became a successful salesman across the Northeast. His wonderful personality and hard work ethic connected so many people across various professional landscapes. Most recently, Bill had written two Amazon #1 Bestsellers, which focused on helping people recover and navigate their futures after suffering from addiction and life changing medical diagnoses. His work helped many people live a better life, and it will continue to do so in the years to come.

Bill was the best father anyone could ever ask for, and he is survived by his son, Billy, and Billy’s fiancé, Hannah; brothers and sister, Janet Maloney Brobst (Bernie), Anders (Debbie), and Lanny (Eileen); his loving partner Carol. He is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews, and his ex-wife Patty. He was predeceased by his brother John (Barbara) who passed in 2019.

In his free time, he loved to volunteer at St. Vincent’s de Paul, the Recovery Connection, and Westborough Civic Club. He was able to help so many people in recent years, and his family was incredibly proud of him. He loved Syracuse University and its sports teams, and while living in Massachusetts, he became an honorary Boston sports fan. As a father, he made it a priority to be there for his son and his son’s friends. He was a regular in the stands of his son’s sports games and races. Bill loved animals, especially Ned the Cat, Blaze of Glory, and Mo the Bulldog. Finally, if there was one thing all his friends and family knew about him, it is the “fact” he was always right! He will be dearly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, April 15, from 2 to 4 P.M. at the Pickering & Son Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main St., Westborough.

In lieu of flowers, we suggest a donation to the Immaculate Conception Parish – Marlboro. My dad was extremely active with St. Vincent's de Paul, and he would want to benefit the organization. Donations can be made through their website on their Facebook page.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
