WESTBOROUGH- Frances M. Powers, 86, of Westborough, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the UMass Memorial Healthcare- University Hospital in Worcester. She was the wife of the late Bernard C. Powers.
Born in Oxford, MA, she was the daughter of the late John and Frances (Polubinskas) Katunas. She was educated in Holden schools and attended Worcester State Teachers College.
Frances was a public school teacher for many years with the Northborough Public School System.
She was a communicant of St. Luke the Evangelist Church and has lived in Westborough most of her life.
She is survived by a nephew, Gary Katunas and his wife, Denise and their daughter, Laura, of Chicago, Illinois; and a sister in law, Virginia Katunas of Buzzards Bay.
She was the sister of the late Walter Katunas.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 7, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough. Burial will follow in St. Luke’s Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701

My name is Mary Ann Wyllie and I live in New Brunswick, Canada. I am a sister to Melvin Moore and his wife, Rosetta who have been friends with Fran and her late husband, Bernie for more than forty years.
My husband and I met Fran and Bernie many years ago and have kept in touch ever since.
Fran was such a lovely lady and we loved her so much and are going to miss her terribly.
I wish my husband and I could have been at Fran's funeral but its such a long way for travelling during the winter months.
Please accept our deepest heartfelt sympathy.

We are sister and brother-in-law to Melvin Moore and his wife Rosetta who were friends of Fran`s for many years. We live in New Brunswick, Canada.
We met Fran many years ago and considered her to be a very good friend and honorary family member. We wrote letters several times a year, and visited with when we were in the Massachusetts area. We thought Fran was a lovely and wonderful woman with such a friendly personality, and consider our lives to be enriched for having known her. We will miss her dearly. Our condolences to her remaining family members.

Hi
I am Melvin Moore's brother and live in New Brunswick Canada. Tenna and I met Fran over forty years ago while visiting Mel and Rosie.Our children were quite young at the time and Fran had them over to swim in her swimming pool.We developed a warm relationship with her and always looked forward to a visit with her when in Westborough. She was a lovely and very kind person and we will always have fond memories of her.Please accept our deepest sympathy.
